NHW Bendigo is based in Strathfieldsaye by residents focused to increase safety, crime prevention & community connectedness.
Neighbourhood Watch started in Victoria in 1983 when Victoria Police realised they couldn’t control Victoria’s rising crime rate alone – they needed the community to become involved in crime prevention, especially around home burglaries and thefts.
By 2013 we had transitioned from a Victoria Police program to an independent not-for-profitorganisation.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of tens of thousands of volunteers, working in partnership with their local police, Neighbourhood Watch has grown to become one of Australia’s most effective crime prevention programs.
In 2024 Strathfieldsaye residents re formed their local NHW group after a spade of car theft crime incidents with a focus to increase awareness around safety and help neighbours feel more connected to each other. NHW Bendigo run monthly face to face meetings, virtual events and other events throughout the year focused on connecting people and preventing crime with events such as Coffee with a Cop and Safe Plates.
See their events on their Facebook Page and contact the group if you wish to become a member or committee board member.
