Ironbark Gully Friends build community connections, care for nature, and advocate for public space enhancements.

About Us

Ironbark Gully Friends formed in 2013 to build community connections, care for nature, and advocate for public space enhancements and a shared trail along the Ironbark Gully. In 2020, the group evolved into an urban Landcare Group with increased focus on community stewardship of public space, increasing urban biodiversity and continuing to advocate for a shared trail.

Ironbark Gully is situated in inner Bendigo on Djaara Country. There are several large public space reserves that are managed by the City of Greater Bendigo and State Government. The urban landscape has suffered from gold mining legacy and urban development. The natural waterways have been channelised or piped, land has been contaminated by mine tailings, native vegetation cleared, and exotic plantings have replaced the original ecological community of Box-Ironbark Forest and grassy woodlands. The time to heal Country is now, and the Ironbark Gully Friends are collaborating with the community and building partnerships to make the gully a healthy place to live and enjoy nature.

Our vision is ‘a healthy community growing together in a healthy place’.

Our mission is to connect people to nature and their community by enabling and promoting active use of the Ironbark Gully.
