Presented by The Friends of Bendigo Botanic Gardens Illustrators, celebrating our 25th Anniversary.
This art exhibition highlights the work of the The Friends of Bendigo Botanic Gardens Illustrators.
The Friends were established in 2000, with our main aims being to advocate for the promotion, development and ongoing restoration of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens. The Friends group play a pivotal role in engaging our community and promoting garden conservation. Through volunteer programs, education initiatives, and fundraising efforts, The Friends help to ensure the long-term sustainability of the botanic gardens.
The Friends of Bendigo Botanic Garden Illustrators formed in 2005 to learn new skills and produce works of art inspired by nature.
When the Illustrators formed, for many years we concentrated purely on botanical illustration. These botanical drawings help identify and understand plants in a timeless and visually appealing manner. In more recent times we have expanded our scope to include many other natural subjects including birds, butterflies, insects, shells and fish.
Since the global disruption of Covid, the Illustrators have not had the opportunity to exhibit their work. This opportunity to exhibit will feel like a “Re-emergence”; not only of artistic vision; but inspired and reflective of natural re-emergences as evidenced by the miraculous reappearance of natural colonies in response to the changing environment.
