Community Garden provides the availability of fresh food, strengthening community ties, improving physical & mental health, and promotes relaxation.
In January 2020 we appointed our Gardener (through City of Greater Bendigo funding), allowing the establishment of the Community Garden in February 2020.
Our aim is to be diverse and inclusive; we designed our garden beds to meet the community’s different physical needs. The beds have been built to accommodate wheelchairs and prams. We have made provision for those unable to kneel or bend down by building the beds at a height which participants can stand and work. The garden is well maintained and free from hazards in accordance with our risk management policy, ensuring a safe environment for participants.
The garden addresses many needs in our community, such as availability of fresh food, strengthening community ties, improving physical and mental health, and promote relaxation. Community Gardens have the facility to engage people and assist them in capacity building.
Gardening is about the growing of food but it is more than that. Gardening gives the opportunity for us to be connected in a common interest, sharing knowledge and feeling a sense of ownership to the community.
