The Women’s Ward is an 18 bed unit delivering a diverse range of services for women with gynaecological conditions, pregnancy and postnatal care. The Birthing Suite at Bendigo Health is a state of the art six bed unit of which three have water immersion baths and concealed services to maintain a homely environment.
We work together with you and your family to enable you to have a positive birth experience and to feel confident and prepared after birth as you begin your journey as new parents
We care for women and their babies during their pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate post birth period. We also care for women who have had gynaecological surgical procedures or who have been diagnosed with a gynaecological problem.
You can expect sensitive, evidence based family centred care. Families are valued and treated as individuals by experienced midwives and medical staff. We offer a warm friendly environment accompanied by naturally lit quiet private rooms, with individual baby bathing facilities and entertainment unit.
What are the visiting hours?
The Women’s ward and Birthing Suite are secure wards. They are both only assessable by Bendigo Health staff allowing you entry. Your support person is welcome 24hrs a day while you are in labour and in the Women's Ward. All other visitors are restricted to between 2pm-8pm.
Can my support person stay with me overnight?
If your support person wishes to stay overnight, each room has a single reclinable chair that may be used for sleeping. They must abide by the ‘support person code of conduct’, click here to download. They will not be provided with meals and can access one of the five Zouki cafes throughout the hospital. Toddlers and children are welcome to visit but are not permitted to stay overnight
How long will I be in hospital?
Our routine length of stay is individualised. Some women who have had had a vaginal birth may feel comfortable being discharged after 4 hours while others may wish to stay overnight. For caesarean section births a stay of 2- 3 days is usual but in all cases families will be supported in making plans for discharge.
For gynaecological procedures your stay may be 1-3 days.
Bendigo Health have created a virtual tour of our Maternity Ward to make navigating the hospital during your pregnancy that little bit easier. Bendigo Health will no longer run the Saturday tour. If you have any questions please contact us and our staff will speak to you.
